One Year On Post Surgery

Hey all, its me I am back and I am so sorry its been a while again, life got in the way and I just haven’t been feeling it like I usually do! But I am back and I want to apologise for not keeping you up to date on life etc…. Last time I wrote was all about mine and Greg’s love story back in the Summer which was amazing, but now I need to find a little me time to fall in love with my blogging again so you can all follow our family adventures. Please do feel free to get in contact with me if there is anything you’d all love me to cover on my blog because I am always open to ideas and suggestions along with any of my own ideas I may have for the future on my little blog.

But hey where we’re we, Oh Yes, you all saw it right, I am now just over 12months post mitrofanoff surgery!!! I can’t believe its been a year already…Its crazy to think I had only been home a few short days by this time last year and I was recovering at home with 2 indwelling catheters still in for 6 weeks. Recovery was long and hard but I can honestly say having my bladder neck closed and a mitrofanoff channel made through my stomach to my bladder has to be the best thing I have done for myself medically in years.

I’ll be totally honest with you all, recovering from this type of major surgery was not easy in the slightest, it took months for me to finally feel like myself again and get used to the new way of doing things but 12 months on, sometimes things are still a little difficult with bladder spasms and the occasion UTI but I am pushing through and have a much better quality of life than I have in such a long time. I won’t lie, since the surgery I have put on a little weight after striving so hard a few years ago to go from a size 16-18 to a size 12, and that doesn’t always make things easy when catheterising through my Mitrofanoff channel but with me working and wanting to give my little blended family a better life I want to get back to a healthier way of life and lose the weight again, and get back to a body shape and weight I am comfortably happy with which will in turn help things to be easier when catheterising.

To go into a little more detail about the difficulties I encounter alongside my condition I will go into Bladder spasms a bit more and what they feel like for me on the occasions I do happen to experience them. For anyone who has ever had bladder spasms you may totally understand where I’m coming from here, a bladder spasm can vary in its intensity and in my own experiences feels like someone is vigorously squeezing my bladder and this can last anything from a few short seconds to a few minutes all of this can often be accompanied by a stinging sensation, and the worst part of it is that it can make you feel like you really need to wee so you go when in fact you don’t need one and it can irritate your bladder even more.

I have had a few ideas about blogging my journey with my mitrofanoff, or should I say my wonderful man Greg who also has a mitrofanoff had a great idea which I intend on doing a little research on and see what happens, this will hopefully involve the company I receive my medical supplies from. This I will keep you all updated on, as and when I can get any more information and whether the company are up for contributing in what I have in mind. I’m thinking I may even get Greg in on the act and have him write a small piece about his life with a mitrofanoff as he’s had his for almost 30 years. I wish I had taken more photos especially when I was recovering for the 8 weeks I was at home with catheter bags on and my wounds but I took no pics really only the ones you see on here. I will do another post soon about life with my mitrofanoff and maybe get some pics of my mitro entrance.

Thank you for continuing to support me on my blogging journey, I need to be a lot more present on here and get more writing done. Here’s to 2023 and a great year for me to get some more blogging done.
