This week we said goodbye to our emergency foster fur boy Karlos, we are 6 months on from losing our beautiful brindle boy Tiger back in November and although it still really hurts taking on Karlos as a foster was the best thing for us and for our BoBos at the time. Bo has had another play mate for the past 6 months and its gone someway to healing a huge hole in our little family.
No other dog will ever replace our beautiful Tiger Waffle, in our eyes and hearts he is completely irreplaceable, we will miss our gentle giant brindle hound because his doggy snuggles we’re always the best, he loved coming to sleep on the bed, he could often be found snuggled up as small as he could get by my head. There is a lot more to be said about tiger in my previous blog about losing him, so feel free to check out that post. Going back to taking on Karlos, we took on this gorgeous hound as an emergency foster, 1 because we had just experienced loss and 2 because he himself had just experienced loss in the form of his elderly owner, so in light of this we all needed some TLC. The lovely Deb from Dudley Greyhound Trust asked if I would be willing to foster him and of course I was happy to as long as him and Bo took to each other, which of course they did.
Bo and Karlos have been the best of pals for the past 6 months, but in light of our family situation and other things we we’re never really in a position to take him on permanently, so we have taken the best care of him as we do any dog when we have fostered in the past, but this week was time to say goodbye to the little blue/grey hound that helped us heal when we we’re hurting. He has now gone off to his forever family, a lovely couple who lost their greyhound back in February. Hopefully he helps heal their hearts like he did ours, we will continue to support Dudley Greyhound Trust where ever we can, because they have been amazing with us over the past few years and they we’re a huge support when Tiger passed away.
Any dog is amazing with the right amount of TLC but coming from someone whose always had greyhounds I can honestly say there are so many misconceptions regarding greyhounds, that they can be highly strung but what dog can’t, they need too much exercise being ex racers and they are huge dogs. Not all greys are highly strung they just want a comfy bed or sofa to snuggle on after retiring from racing and a full belly, they actually don’t need that much exercise, a few short walks a day, and boy do they love zoomies before being able to snuggle and sleep. And not all greys are massive, yes the greys we have owned 2 we’re massive boys, but Fifi the girl we lost before taking on Bo and Tiger and of course our beautiful Bobos are of average size, and Karlos actually wasn’t that big at all he was petite and loving. All any dog wants is to be loved, and after being brought up to race, once retired greys just want to chill out and retire gracefully.

If you ever want to look at fostering or adopting a Greyhound and you are in the West Midlands area, please do check out Greyhound Trust Dudley, but if you are not in the West Midlands there are plenty of greyhound trust kennels all over the UK. I have linked Dudley’s Facebook page below, they have many hounds looking for homes if you can help.

So I think for this one I have waffled on quite enough, thank you for the continued support and reading of my blog posts.
